A free, self-paced 5km walk or run brings Lagos together for fitness, colour, and community

Thirty minutes of brisk walking or jogging is enough to work the heart, lift the mood, and loosen the grip of a long week. On Saturday, November 14, Lagos residents can get that and a good deal more at the Avon Colour Run, a 5km fitness walk or run starting at 7:00am at Eko Atlantic. Registration is free at avoncolourrun.com.

Organised by Avon HMO and Avon Medical, the Colour Run is the latest chapter in the organisations’ push to make healthy habits easy to start and enjoyable to keep. It is open to individuals, families, colleagues, and community groups.

A morning built around colour

The 5km distance is deliberately approachable. There is no clock to beat and no pace to hold. Participants go at their own speed, so a seasoned runner chasing a personal best and a first timer taking the route at a stroll are equally welcome. Anyone who has been meaning to get moving again has a clear, low-pressure place to begin.

Every finisher goes home with a medal. It is a keepsake of the morning and a reason to cross the line with pride, whatever the pace.

Better together

Exercise is easier to sustain in company, and the Colour Run is designed with that in mind. Friends can sign up together, offices can turn out as teams, and families can share a Saturday morning that does not involve a screen. Walking or running alongside colleagues or neighbours builds the kind of bonds that rarely form across a desk or a group chat.

The health case is well established. Regular moderate exercise supports cardiovascular health, helps manage weight and blood pressure, and is linked to better sleep and reduced stress. An organised event gives people a date to work towards and a group to show up with.

A tradition with a track record

The Avon Colour Run is not a new idea for the organisers. The previous edition took place in 2019, and Avon HMO has since kept the public moving through its City Walk. This year’s event continues that thread of fitness and wellness engagement, reaching the wider Lagos community beyond the Avon member network.

For Avon, the logic is consistent. A health maintenance organisation that champions prevention as well as treatment has every reason to put people on the road together on a Saturday morning. Members of Avon HMO and Avon Medical are encouraged to join, and so is anyone else in Lagos who wants to take part.

How to take part

Registration is free and handled entirely online. Visit avoncolourrun.com to sign up and find further information about the event. Registered participants collect their outfit ahead of race day, so there is nothing to sort out in the morning itself. Register with friends, family or colleagues and make it a group outing.

Mark the date, bring your own pace, and come ready for a colourful morning.
